Personal, Family & Community Histories

Sandy Selby can help you capture precious family and community stories or craft your own biography. As an experienced researcher and oral historian, she will lead you through the process of preserving important historical information that is in danger of being lost. Whether you need a consultant to get you started on your DIY history project, or seek a professional to do the research, conduct the interviews, and create an expertly written and designed book, Sandy has the know-how to conserve the stories of your generation.

Services Available:

  • Personal Biographer. Through a series of in-person or telephone interviews and written questionnaires over a period of 6-12 months, Sandy will collect the information for your biography and write the book of your life! This work can be credited to Sandy or ghost-written.
  • Family Historian. Through questionnaires, personal interviews, and research using public and private materials, Sandy will create a chronological history of your family that will be a treasure for this and future generations.
  • Community Historian. Sandy will work with your community’s volunteers to collect oral histories on as many current and former residents as possible. The transcripts of all interviews will be preserved on paper and digitally as a research resource for current and future historians.
  • Story Curator. Sandy will create an “Arrow Rock Ink” style book for your community that traces your town’s history through historical newspapers and town records.
